April/May

April showers, bring May flowers...  It's been unusually rainy for April, which is good.  Hopefully the rain will offset the
expected wildfire season.  If you haven't heard, along with flowers May brings the Society of Decorative Painters' annual
convention and this year its in Tampa!

Mary Owens is teaching and has a booth at the expo.  Don't miss this.  The dates of the expo are Thursday, May 29 -
Saturday, May 31. For registered attendees there's a special two-hour sneak peak Wednesday night.   Even if you aren't
a member or aren't taking a class you can attend the expo for a nominal fee.  Vendors line the expo hall.  Wood, brushes,
patterns, paints, make-it-and-take-its and more.  Follow this link for more information.  SDP Convention  Attend and look
for me and Carol staffing Mary's booth with her and Cindi.  The theme is The Magic of Painting.  Keep in mind Carol and
I love to have fun at these things.  It should be special.

Ok, new pattern packet.  "Garden Guest" is a butterfly portrait.  I took the picture last year
while this beautiful guy hung out on the butterfly attracting plant by our porch.  At her recent
Bushnell class, Mary showed the technique of rouging on your inking to create highlighting.
It works wonderfully.  Let me know if you'd like to purchase this new packet for $8. This
could fit nicely in an 8 x 10 matte with 5 x 7 opening or go one higher using an 11 x 14
matte with an 8 x 10 opening.  Easy breezy.

I've hopefully made the site a bit more user friendly by adding links to the bottom of each page since some visitors have a
problem with their internet settings.  Certain settings keep folks from clicking on the links on the left side.  This should help.

Check out the  Pen & Ink, Oil Rouging page for information on brush cleaning, pen care and other great tips for the
rouging technique.

So Huck is in the Irish spirit.  Ok, maybe not willingly but he and Thor are good sports.
